![]() ![]() ![]() With Apple’s focus on prosumers, now is the perfect time for the company to launch a 16-inch MacBook Pro aimed squarely at professionals. Apple discontinued it in favor of the 15-inch MacBook Pro but it was a clear step down for many. How does the 16-inch MacBook Pro fit into this picture? The 17-inch MacBook Pro was massive but had its own set of users who preferred the big display and power it packed. Coupled with the improved thermal performance thanks to the use of a better thermal paste, the 15-inch MacBook Pro is now truly a mobile workhorse. The 15-inch MacBook Pro can now be purchased with a 9th generation 8-core Core i9 processor. With the surprise 2019 MacBook Pro refresh, Apple has not only fixed the thermal issues plaguing the 2018 model but also added more horsepower to it. However, that lineup was plagued with thermal issues despite the company rolling out a firmware update to improve thermal performance. Apple first started offering a 6-core processor inside the 15-inch MacBook Pro with the 2018 refresh. ![]() While it continues to lack USB-A ports and still features the unreliable Butterfly keyboard, the MacBook Pro lineup now packs enough horsepower that truly makes it a portable mobile workstation for many. There’s the iMac Pro or even the iMac for that. Many users are going to crib about the price of the Mac Pro but they need to realize that they are not the target audience for the machine. It offers everything they could have asked for - a design that allows for future expansion, immense horsepower, and oodles of RAM, storage, and connectivity options. ![]() After all, Apple accepted that it had put itself into a corner with the 2013 Mac Pro’s trashcan design and needed time to rethink it.ĭespite being outrageously priced, the new Mac Pro is going to make a lot of pro users happy. In many ways, it was a stop-gap solution until the company got around to announcing the Mac Pro along with the equally excellent 6K Pro Display XDR. The iMac Pro was the first to launch from Apple almost two years ago. However, after the iMac Pro, Mac Pro, and the rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro, it is clear that Apple is once again focusing on pro customers. Apple has been widely criticized over the last few years that it has ended up focusing too much on regular customers and has forgotten about prosumers - the ones that have helped the company in becoming what it is today. ![]()
